Prof Johnnie van den Berg Manages the Integrated Pest Management (IPM) research group at North-West University, South Africa. His focus is on applied ecological research with regard to Arthropoda in agro-ecosystems. Principle research areas are Insect Resistance Management (IRM) in Bt maize cropping systems and the development of pest management strategies for grain crops. He also studies the effects of GM crops on non-target organisms and the environment. Over the past 10 years, he has Supervised more than 100 masters and PhD students both inside and outside of South Africa. Prof Van den Berg teaches several post-graduate modules in IPM, notably on economic threshold levels, insect-plant interactions and on the role of GM crops in IPM.
