Dr Bessie Malila is a postdoctoral research fellow at the University of Cape Town and a senior member of the IEEE. She is a visiting lecturer at the University of Zimbabwe and the Anhalt University of Applied Sciences in Germany where presents lectures in Mobile Networks and Telemedicine respectively. She obtained her PhD and MSc in Telecommunications from the University of Cape Town in 2017 and 2012 respectively. She obtained her BSc in electrical engineering from the University of Zimbabwe in 2000. Bessie has gained vast experience in the telecommunication industry as a technician, engineer, manager in Zimbabwe and in South Africa. On completion of her PhD studies, she joined the University of Cape Town as a part-time lecture and later as a postdoctoral research fellow where she is conducting research in the development of innovative communication solutions for improved delivery of healthcare services using 5G technologies. Her research interests include digital health systems (eHealth and mHealth), 5G systems, telemedicine, Augmented and Virtual reality, medical imaging, the security of health networks, Blockchain technologies, mHealth applications and services, and machine learning. Bessie has experience in postgraduate student supervision, research grant application, and has a growing publication record.
