In recent years, science communication has evolved into a specialised field in its own right. Dedicated conferences, journals, graduate programmes, and academic communities have emerged, each specialising in different dimensions of communicating science and employing various methods and formats. In this presentation, Prof. David Budtz Pedersen takes a step back and reflects on the important role of science communication in forging partnerships between academia and society and enhancing the societal impact of science. Science communication is at the heart of transformative research for societal change and has valuable insights to offer within emerging fields of knowledge brokering, knowledge mobilisation and other interactive forms of research.

David Budtz Pedersen is Professor of Science Communication and Impact Studies at the Department of Communication and Psychology, Aalborg University (Denmark). His research focuses on the management, communication and impact of science and technology. He is a regular adviser to the European Commission, the European ministries of science, and a Member of the Norwegian Research Council. He takes a special interest in open, responsible and collaborative research focused on creating a positive impact in society. He is a distinguished member of the International Network of Governmental Science Advice (INGSA).
