Brief Biography (English)
Paula Watt is Professor in the School of Life Sciences at the University in KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN). She obtained her PhD and started her career in the Photosynthetic Nitrogen Metabolism Research Unit (PNMRU) at the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits). Since then, she has been based at UKZN, where her research has focused on plant biotechnology with strong links to the forestry and sugarcane industries. She is an NRF-rated scientist and a member of the Academy of Sciences of South Africa (ASSAf). She has served in various management roles, and in advisory committees to South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA) and the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR).
