Brief Biography (English)

Dr Tesfaye Taddese Waryo is currently a Senior Researcher at the Department of Chemistry, University of the Western Cape (UWC), South Africa.

He started his academic career at the then Alemaya University of Agriculture (now the Haramaya University) in Ethiopia, from 1992 to 2006, with exception of study leave years. Dr Waryo joined the SensorLab research group at UWC as a Postdoc in late 2006.

His on-the-job Self-Taught or Trained technical skills include operation/troubleshooting/improvisation/management of SNIFTIR, UV/Vis/NIR absorption & PL-SPELEC, SECM, SAXS, voltammetry (dc, pulse), EIS, and EQCM instruments.

He attended Courses on IP generation/protection/commercialization, Project management, and recently Professionalization of teaching, T & L Induction workshop, Concept mapping and CMAP software, e-Portfolio, and Google forms.

Dr Waryo's Research interest is along Nanoparticle or enzymatically amplified amperometric immunosensors for disease biomarkers; QD-labelled aptasensors/RNA genosensors; Conducting polymers, multi-valent binary metal oxides, substituted kesterites/chalcopyrite/for PV cells, catalysis, and sensors; ITIES.

He is Affiliated with CSE (Ethiopia), SACI (SA), ISE (electrochemistry), and IUPAC.

Dr Waryo was an Invited Reviewer for NRF (SA) and the Journals (eXPRESS Polymer Letters, Electrochimica Acta, Electroanalysis, Journal of Applied Electrochemistry; International Journal of Environmental Analytical Chemistry, Water SA, Current Nanoscience, Chemical Communications, Reports in Electrochemistry, and, Journal of  Alloys and Compounds.
