Prof Sue Walker is Principal Researcher Agrometeorology at Agricultural Research Council - Soil, Climate and Water, Pretoria. She is Professor Emeritus in Agromet at the University of the Free State, Bloemfontein, South Africa. She supervised 20 PhD. students and published 100 scientific articles and many technical reports. Her PhD. In-Plant Physiology is from the University of California Davis, USA, following her studies at the University of KwaZulu-Natal in Agricultural Meteorology. She develops climate services translating scientific results into useful operational messages, with experience in Southern, East Africa, and South East Asia on agrometeorological and development projects. She applies evidence-based science to agricultural concerns using crop-climate modeling, Agromet extension services for farmers, in semi-arid conditions using modern technology. Prof Sue was Project Leader for ‘Rain for Africa’ project funded by Netherlands Space Office and Climate-Smart Agriculture Training for Extension funded by GIZ. Professor Walker is a member of the International Commission for Irrigation and Drainage - Working Group on Global Climate Change and Agricultural Water Management. She represented South Africa at WMO-CAgM from 1998-2014. She is a Fellow of South African Society of Crop Production, since January 2010 for good service provided to agriculture. She is a C-1 rated scientist with the South African National Research Foundation.
