Dr Stephan Veldsman obtained a PhD Zoology at the University of Pretoria, South Africa and holds a BSc Degree in Plant Diversity and Environmental Management, an Honours and a Master’s degree in Plant Ecology from the University of Pretoria, South Africa.
He has 17 years’ experience in Biodiversity, GIS, Ecology, and 15 years’ Environmental Science consulting, 14 years' experience in Geology and 13 years’ experience in Public Participation and Stakeholder Engagement.
Dr Veldsman is Registered at the South African Council for Natural Scientific Professions (SACNASP – 400100/09) to practice in the fields of Botanical Science, Ecological Science and Environmental Science. He also completed Certificates in Environmental Law for Environmental Managers, Implementing Environmental Management Systems (ISO 140001) and Environmental Management System ISO 14001 Audit: A Lead Auditor Course Based on ISO 19011 and ISO 17021 at the Centre for Environmental Management, North-West University, South Africa.
His core competencies and expertise are Project Management, Lead Environmental Practitioner, Manage ecological, conservation and biodiversity projects, geographic information systems (GIS) and modeling, compilation of environmental impact assessments (EIA) and management plans (EMP), manage large networks of specialists and consultants, compilation of environmental risk assessments, conduct environmental audits, lead public participation practitioner, conducting specialist vegetation studies, conducting wetland assessments and soil classification studies, mine rehabilitation and erosion control, social needs and skills analysis, social and labor plans, compilation of community involvement and development projects, assisting with geological field exploration and technical assistants, geographic information systems (GIS) and modeling.
In his spare time, he is a Coastal and Molluscan Researcher, focused on marine biogeography and described several new Molluscan species.
