Dr Johann van Wyk is a Library and Information Manager with substantial experience in library management, information specialist work, and research data librarianship in an academic environment. He is currently employed by the University of Pretoria Library as Assistant Director Scholarly Communications where he has been responsible for the Research Data Management, Open Scholarship, and Copyright Units at the University Library. He is also currently the Chair of the Network of Data and Information Curation Communities (NeDICC), a national network representing higher education institutions and research councils in South Africa, focusing on the management of research data. Previous work experience includes the Management of the Education Faculty Library at the Groenkloof Campus of the University of Pretoria from 2002 to 2013, and information specialist work from 1996-2004. He obtained a DPhil in Information Science at the University of Pretoria in 2018, and his thesis was titled: The relationship between Research Data Management and Virtual Research Environments. He also completed a Masters in Information Science (MIS) in 2008 at the University of Pretoria with a dissertation, titled:Communities of practice: an essential element in the knowledge management practices of an academic library as learning organisation .His interests are in library management, scholarly communications, digital scholarship, innovation in libraries, e-Research, Research Data Management, Web 2.0, and Virtual Research Environments in Higher Education.
