Dr Martha Johanne (Martie) van Deventer is currently retired/self-employed. She has Supervised several Masters Dissertations and is currently also Co-Supervising DPhil candidates. Dr Van Deventer regularly serves as an External Examiner (Masters and Doctorates) for UCT, UNISA, UJ and the Milpark Business School.
As part-time Lecturer at the University of Pretoria (UP), she is Responsible for 'two year/15 credit’ modules (Repositories and virtual work environments & Research Data Management) and the 10-credit Research Methodology Module for the (M.IT-B) academic qualification – which aims to develop library leaders for Africa. Dr Van Deventer is also Responsible for an elective module in the management of research big data (for the UP M.IT-C (Big Data) degree). Supervising dissertations is part of the workload. She is also Co-Supervising 8 DPhil theses.
Dr Van Deventer Chaired the local steering committee responsible for arranging the CODATA-RDA Summer School Pretoria-initiative 2020. The School followed an international standard and its main objective is to provide early-career researchers with the basic skills to conduct responsible research in the open science, collaborative, data-intensive work environment which dominates 21st-century research.
