Professor Ositadinma Chinyere Ugbogu was born on the 30th of October 1974 and hails from Amaku- Nvosi Isiala Ngwa South LGA of Abia State, Nigeria. He attended Community Primary School Amaku Nvosi 1979-1984) and proceeded to Grammar School Nbawsi Isiala Ngwa (1985-1990) for Secondary Education. He studied Microbiology at Abia State University (1994-1998) and graduated with a Second-Class Upper Division. He obtained an MSc in Industrial Microbiology from Michael Okpara University of Agriculture Umudike (2005) and a PhD in Microbiology from Abia State University Uturu Nigeria (2008). He also obtained a Diploma in Air Pollution Management from the Swedish Meteorological and Hydrological Institute (SMHI) Norrkoping Sweden.
Prof Ugbogu started his career as a Graduate Assistant at Abia State University Uturu and became a Professor in 2016. Osita served as the pioneer Head of the Department of Microbiology Federal University Wukari (January 2013- July 2016) and director of the Institute for Computer Studies Abia State University 2016- July 2021.
Prof Ugbogu is a Fellow of the Nigerian Society for Microbiology and has served the society as Business Manager, Financial Secretary, Internal auditor and Bacteriology Representative. He is a member of the Biotechnology Society of Nigeria, the Nigerian Society for Microbial Ecology, the International Society for Microbial Ecology and the American Society for Microbiology.
Prof Ugbogu has been either a participant or resource person in over 50 scientific meetings workshops and symposiums. He was a Federal Government Scholar for MSc 2001/2002 session and had the following grants; SIDA Grant 2007, WEDC Grant 2013, TETFund Grant 2015 and 2017. He writes poetry as pastime.
