Professor Christoph Trauernicht is the head of the medical physics division at Tygerberg Hospital (Cape Town, South Africa) and an associate professor at Stellenbosch University. His research interests include operational research in medical physics, medical physics staffing and equipment in Africa, medical physics education and training, as well as machine learning applications in radiotherapy.
Prof Trauernicht was the recipient of the 2020 “International Day of Medical Physics” award from the International Organization for Medical Physics for “considerable services to medical physics and the broader community in the FAMPO region”. (FAMPO = Federation of African Medical Physics Organizations). This award recognises excellence in medical physics with a particular view of promoting medical physics to a larger audience and highlighting the contributions medical physicists make for patient care.
