Dr Sheethal Tom graduated from the Department of Computer Science & Engineering at the Toc H Institute of Science & Technology, India in 2009. She received a Master's degree in Computer Science & Engineering from the Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham University, India in 2011.
Dr Tom was fortunate enough to have served as an Assistant Professor and a Lecturer for undergraduate and postgraduate IT students at the Ilahia Institute of Science and Technology, India. After relocating to South Africa, she began working as a Lecturer in the Department of Information Technology at the Central University of Technology, Bloemfontein, South Africa.
At the beginning of 2017, she joined the PhD program in the Department of Information Technology at the Central University of Technology, South Africa. She completed her PhD in 2020. Dr Tom's Doctoral Research work was to develop a framework for the adoption and effective use of ICT’s for Visually Impaired Learners in higher education in South Africa. She found that her professional experience as a Software Engineer in Cape Town provided her with a broad view in the field of Information Technology.
Dr Tom is currently working as a Lecturer in the Department of Information Technology at the Cape Peninsula University of Technology, Cape Town, South Africa, where she continues to Contribute to Research on Information Technology and Leads campus and professional service activities.
Her Research interests include ICT frameworks, computer vision, Image processing, ICT for development and engineering education.
