Prof Thuo holds a PhD in Planning from The University of Waikato, New Zealand. He holds an MBA from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT). BSc and MSc in Environmental Planning from Kenyatta University. Prof Thuo is a Corporate Member of Kenya Institute of Planners, a Licensed National Environment Management Authority (Kenya) Lead Expert. Prior to joining Maasai Mara University, where he is an Associate Professor and have served as the Dean, School of Tourism and Natural Resource Management Since May 2015, he served as a Senior Lecturer and Chairperson at Department of Land Resources Planning and Management, Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology. He also taught as a Lecturer and Assistant Lecturer, and Chairperson at the Department of Environmental Planning and Management, Kenyatta University, 2003. Prof Thuo has served Chairman, County Land Management Board, appointed by the National Land Commission, Kenya which has a mandate of managing public land on behalf of County and National Governments between 2014- 2017.
