Prof Demel Teketay received his BSc in Agriculture, with Specialization in Plant Sciences, from Addis Ababa University (Ethiopia), his MSc in Plant Taxonomy from the University of Reading (United Kingdom), and his PhD in Forest Vegetation Ecology from the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (Sweden).
He is currently serving as a Professor in Forest Sciences and is the founding Dean of the Faculty of Natural Resources in the Botswana University of Agriculture and Natural Resources (BUAN). Prof Teketay has served as Extension Agent, Graduate Assistant, Assistant Lecturer, Lecturer and Assistant Professor in Ethiopia; Research Scholar, Associate Professor and Professor in Botswana; Director of Forestry Research and Director General in the Ethiopian National Agricultural System, African Regional Director of the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) - African Regional Office (FSC-Africa) as well as Executive Manager of the African Eco-Labelling Mechanism (AEM).
He has Published 256 Scientific Articles and Technical Reports, of which 160 are peer-reviewed in international and national scientific Journals.
Prof Teketay is a Fellow of The World Academy of Sciences (TWAS), an International Fellow of the Royal Swedish Academy of Agriculture and Forestry (KSLA), a Fellow of African Academy of Sciences (AAS), an Associate Fellow of Ethiopian Academy of Sciences (EAS) and a Member of Botswana Academy of Science (BAS).
