Dr Rika Swanzen has nearly 30 years of experience in child welfare, mental health, community development, residential care, and Ecometric measurement (monitoring and evaluation). In 2016 she was appointed by the Minister of Social Development as a council member, to represent education and training on the South African Council for Social Service Professions, for a 6-year term. Rika authored 24 peer-reviewed publications and delivered 28 conference presentations between 2007 and 2023. The outcome of her doctoral study was the ChildPIE©; a classification system for describing childhood social functioning problems and the focus areas of her most recent research is on service-learning and paediatric palliative care.
