Brief Biography (English)

Dr Cora Stobie is a Senior Museum Scientist at the National Museum in Bloemfontein, South Africa. She has a background in population and evolutionary genetics.

Her previous work assessed the phylogeography and population genetics of yellowfish (Labeobarbus), and her Honours work investigated the use of nuclear markers in genetic studies of various South African frog taxa.

She is currently investigating questions of phylogeny in crag lizards (Pseudocordylus) and the Common Girdled Lizard (Cordylus vittifer) at the National Museum with Dr Michael Bates using genetic techniques to complement morphological analyses. Dr Stobie is also working on a citizen science project which maps reptile and amphibian distributions for taxa found in the Free State province using social media records.
