Dr Mike Silberbauer is an Aquatic Scientist with a Doctorate in Methods for visualizing complex water quality data (2010) and a Master’s in Limnology (1981), which included a Study of phosphorus dynamics in Swartvlei. He worked at the Hydrological Research Institute, Department of Water Affairs, Roodeplaat Dam, from 1977 to 1984. Dr Silberbauer worked in the laboratories and supporting water quality modeling projects. He then worked as a Research Assistant at the University of Cape Town until 1989, counting zooplankton from Namibian impoundments, plotting numbers of whales recorded by more adventurous souls, and collecting data on Western Cape wetlands. In 1990 he returned to Roodeplaat Dam to work at the Institute, which eventually became Resource Quality Information Services in the Department of Water and Sanitation. He was involved in a range of activities related to water quality data analysis and reporting including satellite data interpretation, geographical information systems and programming in R, before retiring in January 2020.
