Cletah Shoko is an Associate Professor of Geospatial Sciences at the University of the Witwatersrand. She holds a PhD in Environmental Science and an MSc in Bioresources systems from the University of KwaZulu-Natal in South Africa, with special emphasis on geoinformation science and earth observation applications in natural resources modelling, assessment, and monitoring, as well as their response to environmental change. Some of her research has contributed to the development of an integrated water resources accounting methodology for South Africa. Her research interests further entail the development and testing of geospatial based models to derive essential information that can be used in biodiversity conservation, climate change mitigation and adaption, disaster rapid response, water resources management in Southern Africa and beyond. To date, Cletah has participated in a number of local and international projects such as the TIGER Bridge African Water and Climate Change Phase 1 Project commissioned by the European Space Agency (ESA) - Water for Agriculture (from 2016 to 2017), as well as participated in high profile conferences, both locally and internationally. Dr Shoko’s research thrust is biased towards serving humanity and nature, with over 30 publications in high impact Geospatial Science Journals.
