Brief Biography (English)

Charlie Shackleton is Professor in the Department of Environmental Science at Rhodes University (RU) and a holder of the DST-NRF SARChI Chair in Interdisciplinary Science in Land and Natural Resource Use for Sustainable Livelihoods. With 36 years of experience, Charlie have generic interdisciplinary research skills pertaining to social-ecological systems in relation to communal areas and management, rural livelihoods, resource valuation, urban ecology and forestry, and food security. Charlie has supervised or co-supervised 28 PhD and 61 Masters students. He has over 281 peer-reviewed journal papers to his name, 9 books and 47 book chapters. He is a Member of the Academy of Science of South Africa (ASSAf).
