Brief Biography (English)

As a broadly trained environmental social scientist, Nina's interest is in the inherent contextual factors that constrain and enable social-ecological systems, specifically with regards to ocean governance. She is currently working on four projects investigating ocean governance from systems thinking and adaptive management perspective, all within the Western Indian Ocean region. The legitimation and production of knowledge in these processes are also of interest to her. In the past, she helped design and facilitate collaborative, multi-stakeholder interventions for adaptive resources management in the freshwater and food security nexus. She is currently working as a postdoctoral research fellow with the Algoa Bay Project (funded by NRF and DST) investigating participatory processes in the co-development of a marine spatial plan for Algo Bay in the Eastern Cape.
