Assako Assako Rene Joly is Full Professor of geography. He was born on September 19, 1971 in Africa, southern Cameroon, where he founded his village named BIYI-AKOUM-ESEJE’E in 2008. He is one of those who can be described as a brilliant subject. After his Bachelor of Geography at the University of Yaoundé in 1990, he obtained a Masters and a Diploma of Advanced Studies at the University of Nantes, respectively in 1991 and 1992. On January 19, 1996, he obtained the Doctorate at the University of Paris 10 Nanterre (France) and an Habilitation à Diriger les Recherches (HDR) at the University Joseph Fourier - Grenoble 1 (France) in 2004. Recipient of an excellence grant from the Agence Universitaire de la Francophonie, he spent one year post-doc stay at the University of Fribourg (Switzerland), in 1996/1997. He created the Research Group on African Cities in 1999 and the African Urbanization Research Network (AUReN) in 2012, bringing together 8 research teams from 6 countries including 5 African countries, with funding from French cooperation. He has won internationally and leads several scientific projects with significant funding. All this justifies the impressive scientific production of which he is author or editor of 10 books; 18 chapters of collective works; more than 40 scientific articles in high-quality journals in the field of African cities and the environment, using cutting-edge geomatics tools.
In August 2020, he authored a major epistemological innovation in geography, through the book entitled "Transcendent Geography: conceptual and methodological tools for geography differently in Africa", published by L’Harmattan. Few months later, in February 2021, he invented a new concept named “Rhomboscopie”, through the eponym book entitled “Rhomboscopie existentielle. La vie et l’après-vie par la théorie des losanges”, published by “Les Impliqués”. He participated in around sixty conferences and workshops and himself organized around ten scientific meetings, including five international ones. In terms of the supervision of research work, he has supervised or co-directed until the defense, in Cameroonian, African and French universities, countless Master's, more than 10 PhD theses and 03 HDR. Rene Joly is Full Member of the Cameroon Academy of Sciences. He is the recipient of the Knight of the National Order of Valor; Knight of the International Order of Academic Palms of the African and Malagasy Council for Higher Education OIPA / CAMES ); Young Researcher Excellence Award from the Cameroon Academy of Sciences; and Young Researcher Excellence Award from the Agence Universitaire de la Francophonie. He is former Member of the Scientific Council of the Agence Universitaire de la Francophonie, Associate member of several international learned societies, Member of the scientific committee of several national and international journals, Visiting professor in several African and French universities, he is currently at the University of Douala.
