Brief Biography (English)

Prof Flora Pule-Meulenberg graduated with a BSc double major in Chemistry and Biology in 1988 from the University of Botswana, MSc in Soil and Water (Soil Chemistry) from Wageningen University in 1991 and a doctoral degree in Soil Microbiology (Nitrogen Fixation) from the Tshwane University of Technology in 2011. In summary, she is trained as a soil and plant scientist with an outstanding background in soil chemistry and soil microbiology. In the past, she was employed by the Ministry of Agriculture in the Soil Survey Laboratory where she analyzed and interpreted soil tests for mapping purposes. Currently, she teaches undergraduate and graduate in soil science courses. Her research is directed at increasing crop yields in low fertility soils in a sustainable manner that ensures soil health and groundwater quality. She is proficient in describing soil profiles, isolating microorganisms, and inoculating plants in the greenhouse and the field. She is knowledgeable in the measurement of N2 fixation in the field and plant-microbe interactions. Generally, she is also knowledgeable in soils and how to manipulate them for increased production. Climate change mitigation through adaptive land use is close to her heart, and she advocates for the judicious use of fertilizers after soil testing.
