Brief Biography (English)

After obtaining her PhD degree in Parasitology in 2008, Dr Iva Prikrylova continued as Researcher in the Parasitology Lab at the Department of Botany and Zoology, Faculty of Sciences, Masaryk University, Brno, Czech Republic. Through various field expeditions in Africa (Senegal, Kenya, Burundi, Zimbabwe, and South Africa), in 2012 she initiated her collaboration with the University of Limpopo, South Africa. In July 2015, she joined the Water Research Group at North-West University, Potchefstroom campus. Since August 2019, she has been appointed as Senior Researcher under DSI-NRF SARChI Chair.

In December 2020, Dr Prikrylova was awarded the C2 National Research Foundation (NRF) rating.

I'm specialized in monogenean parasites of freshwater fish, their taxonomy, phylogenetics, and ecology.  My top expertise is with monogeneans of the family Gyrodactylidae. To date, I have authored descriptions of three new genera of the family Gyrodactylidae, and more than 20 new species of various genera of African monogeneans.
