Mirjana Pović is an Assistant Professor at the Ethiopian Space Science and Technology Institute (Ethiopia), Associate Researcher at the Institute of Astrophysics of Andalucia (Spain), and Honorary Lecturer at Mbarara University of Science and Technology (Uganda). Her main field of research is galaxy formation and evolution, focused on nuclear activity in galaxies, morphological classification and properties of galaxies, star formation in galaxies, and galaxy clusters. She participated in numerous international projects and took a part in different committees including the IAU Division C steering committee, PROMIS evaluation committee of the Republic of Serbia, AfAS Scientific Committee, ESSTI Science and Research Committees, Ethiopian Space Policy and Strategy Committee, and Ethiopian Space Science Road Map Committee. She participated in different projects focused on the development of science and education in Ethiopia, Rwanda, Uganda, Tanzania, South Africa, Kenya, Ghana, and Zambia, through joint research collaborations, students supervisions, training, lecturing, regulation development, and outreach. In 2018 she received Nature Research Award for Inspiring Science. In 2019 she received an invitation to become a Science Ambassador of the Science Fund of the Republic of Serbia, and in 2019 and 2020 two recognitions for development of astronomy in Ethiopia. She deeply believes that through education, science, and technology we can fight poverty in the long term, and hopefully see one day this world being a more equal and better place for everyone, independently where our roots are.
