Dr Marthienus JohannesI Potgieter has been lecturing Botany at the University of Limpopo for the last 27 years (1994-). Possession of a doctoral degree in Botany, obtained from the University of Limpopo). Advanced theoretical and practical knowledge in the field of Botany and livelihood dimensions. Competence in communicating knowledge and facilitating teaching and learning in lectures, seminars, tutorials, and/or practical or laboratory environments; in assessment practices; the ability to engage in curriculum design and development; and a demonstrated ability to conduct high-quality. Dr Potgieter's Teaching and Learning Performance is based on the assessment by students, pass rates, and professional development. Student feedback is very positive (4.5/5). The average pass rate for the last five years is 91% for Honours students (Savanna Management). He was involved in curriculum development in Botany. He is mentoring both academic and support staff to improve their qualification and to become valuable. He incorporate YouTube videos into my teaching methods. His research performance is justified by his research output and national and international peer recognition. Presenting papers at national (86) and international (15) research. Published 80+ SAPSE research papers. His H-index (Scopus) is currently 9 and 10 for Google Scholar (accessed December 2019). He supervised and co-supervised 22 graduated MSc students, and 5 doctoral students. He examined 20 Master’s dissertations and 7 doctoral theses at an external level for four universities, and 2 Master’s dissertations at an internal level. Dr Potgieter is recognised as an authority in his field of research, g. He was asked to evaluate National Research Foundation (NRF) proposals for funding, and evaluated researchers for National Research Foundation (NRF) rating and for a SARCHi Chair for Indigenous Knowledge.
Dr Potgieter is a reviewer for a number of international and national scientific journals, total reviewed: 576. My Academic Administration and Service are as follows: As Manager of the Science Education Centre (six years), he is a leader in steering the strategy of the Centre. He is a member of the following committees: Faculty Board of Science and Agriculture, Senate, and the Faculty of Science and Agriculture Community Engagement Committee (Convener). He is a Senate member for the University of Limpopo’s Community Engagement Committee. He is an administrator for the Faculty of Science and Agriculture Community Engagement. He chaired an internal Selection Committee. His community engagement includes the following participations: As a Centre we are involved with a number of schools in the province, facilitating science education and career guidance. Assisting a number of Expos (ESKOM & TriTech) as a judge in environmental sciences. Facilitating Community Engagement within the Faculty of Science and Agriculture.
