Brief Biography (English)

John Morley Pettifor is a pediatrician and Emeritus Professor and Honorary Professorial Researcher at the University of the Witwatersrand. Until his retirement in 2010, he was a chief pediatrician and Head of the Department of Paediatrics at Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital. His research interests focus on child nutrition, and calcium, vitamin D, and bone metabolism. He was until 2017 aN NRF A2 rated scientist. He was awarded the SAMRC Silver Medal in 1997, the International Congress of Children’s Bone Health Charles Slemenda Award in 2002, the Dr. C Gopalan Gold Medal of the Indian Nutrition Society in 2009, and a Career Award from the International Vitamin D Workshop in 2012. He was made an Honorary Fellow of the College of Paediatricians of South Africa in 2016.
