George William Pariyo, MBChB, PhD, is a Senior Scientist in the Department of International Health at the Johns Hopkins University Bloomberg School of Public Health. Dr. Pariyo also directs the Health Systems Summer Institute and is PI of the Bloomberg Data for Health Initiative (D4H) which conducts research into the use of digital technologies for risk factor surveillance in LMICs. He has over 28 years’ experience at national and global levels as a physician, public health professional, researcher, educator, and health systems expert. He has published over 120 articles in peer-reviewed journals, 3 book chapters, and several professional and technical reports. A former district health officer and regional team leader for quality improvement in the Ugandan MOH; former Associate Professor and Founding Chair, Department of Health Policy, Planning and Management, Makerere University (Uganda); founding director of Ugandan Field Epidemiology Training Program (FETP) and one of the founding directors of the African Field Epidemiology Network (AFENET); WHO Headquarters in Geneva (HSS/Health Workforce) as team leader for evidence and knowledge brokering for the Global Health Workforce Alliance supporting 57 countries. Prior to joining JHU Dr Pariyo served as Senior Specialist for Outcomes and Impact at the Gavi Alliance Secretariat (Geneva), where he led the analysis of program performance, outcomes, and impact, as well as data quality of country immunization programs of 73 Gavi, supported countries. At Gavi, he was responsible for the joint Gavi/UNICEF program on implementation research on priority immunization topics in collaboration with the WHO Alliance for Health Policy and Systems Research. He is currently serving a second term on the WHO/Alliance for Health Policy and Systems Research Scientific and Technical Advisory Committee.
