Brief Biography (English)

Nesri Padayatchi is Deputy Director: Centre for the AIDS Programme of Research in South Africa (CAPRISA) at the University of KwaZulu-Natal and the South African Principal Investigator for the Columbia University-Southern African Fogarty AIDS International Training and Research Programme. Her research interest is in the sociomedical and medical aspects of HIV and DR-TB infections in high-burden, resource-constrained settings. Her greatest scientific contribution has been as the Site Director of the SAPiT (Starting Antiretroviral Therapy at 3 Points in Tuberculosis treatment – CAPRISA 003) trial and Site Principal Investigator of the STRIDE (A5221) trial that addressed some of the most challenging clinical management issues associated with TB-HIV co-infected. Dr. Padayatchi serves as an Executive Member on the SATB Vaccine Committee and she is a member of the South African National Drug-Resistant TB Advisory Committee and the KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Technical Forum for Drug-resistant TB.
