Dr Ibrahim Oyediran was born on the 14th of May 1977 at the Lagos Island Maternity Hospital. He attended Aunty Ayo Preparatory Nursery and Primary School, Ikoyi and Administrative Staff College of Nigeria (ASCON) Staff School Topo, Badagry, Lagos for his primary education. He also attended Badagry Grammar School and Lagos State Model College, Kankon, Badagry for his secondary education.
Haven completed his secondary education, he proceeded to the Ogun State University, Ago-Iwoye where he bagged a Bachelor of Science degree in Geology. His quest for further education and improved knowledge made him apply for a Master's degree in Geology (Engineering Geology/Hydrogeology Option) at the University of Ibadan in 2000 after the mandatory National Youth Service at the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA), Lokoja, Kogi State. On completion of his MSc programme in 2003, he proceeded to obtain a PhD in Engineering Geology in 2010.
Furthermore, in 2013 he won the CAS-TWAS Postdoctoral Fellowship and hence was a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Institute of Geology and Geophysics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Beijing, China from 2013 to 2014. In 2016 at the Nigerian Mining and Geosciences Conference in Ilorin, Dr. Oyediran alongside his project student won the NMGS/Prof. S.C. Teme Award for Best Paper Presented and Full Paper submitted by a Geoscientist of any Nationality in the Field of Engineering Geology and Geotechnics during the Annual NMGS International Conference and Exhibitions with a Value of 100,000.00 Naira and a Gold Medal. Interestingly he repeated the same feat at the 2018 Nigerian Mining and Geosciences Conference held in Kano.
Dr. Oyediran is currently a Reader in the Department of Geology, the University of Ibadan specializing in Engineering and Environmental Geology. He joined the services of the Department of Geology, the University of Ibadan in 2005. Prior to this, he had worked as a Lecturer in the Department of Geology, Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko, Ondo State between 2004 and 2005. He was also a Visiting Lecturer at the Osun State University in 2015 and in 2016 was appointed a part-time lecturer of the Pan African University of Life and Earth Sciences, University of Ibadan.
Dr Oyediran has also contributed to the growth of his Department and University at large. He was Sanitation Officer (2005/2006 Session); Students’ Staff Adviser (2007/2008 Session to 2015/2016 Session); Departmental Museum Officer (2007/2008 to 2009/2010 Session); Utility/Infrastructural/Sanitation Officer (2010/2011 Session to Date); Level Adviser/Reg. Officer (2013/2014 Session to 2015/2016 Session); Member Fieldwork Committee (2010/2011 Session to Date); Member Quality Assurance Committee (2013/2014 Session to Date); Member Student Welfare Committee (2010/2011 Session to Date); Postgraduate Coordinator (M.Sc.) (2015/2016 to 2016/2017 Session); and Postgraduate Coordinator (Research) (2017/2018 Session to Date). In addition, he was appointed Assistant Hall Warden (Sultan Bello Hall) from 2015 to 2018. He is currently the Substantive Hall Warden (2018 to Date). He has accumulated over 15 years of University teaching and administrative experience in several capacities. In addition, he has taught several Engineering Geology, Applied Geology, Environmental Geology, and Hydrogeology core courses at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels and supervised several undergraduate and postgraduate student projects and thesis as well as performing other duties as may be assigned to him. He has published several articles in local and foreign journals and edited proceedings in addition to serving as a Project Consultant to several projects.
