Professor Yashon Ouma is a Professor of Geomatics at the Department of Civil Engineering, University of Botswana. He received his DEng degree from the Center for Environmental Remote Sensing (CeRES) at Chiba University (Japan); MSc (Eng) in Geomatics from the University of Cape Town (South Africa) and BSc (Hons) in Surveying and Photogrammetry from the University of Nairobi (Kenya). His current research interests are focused on Photogrammetric imaging and data processing using UAV-drones, Earth Observation Analytics and the development of Applied Artificial Intelligent (GeoAI) tools for Land-Use and Land-Cover (LULC) mapping, and for modelling the impacts of anthropogenic activities and climate change on resources - including the simulation, prediction and forecasting for surface water and groundwater quality and water quantity monitoring. Prof Ouma is also involved in the development of low-cost sensor-driven mobile mapping systems and algorithms for evaluating road pavement conditions, that is Pavement Information Management Systems (PIMS). He is a recipient of the Alexander von Humboldt (AvH) Georg Forster Research Fellowship, is a Member of the International Society of Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing (ISPRS), served in the International Cartographic Association (ICA) under the Commission on Sensor-driven Mapping, and is currently an Associate Editor with the International Journal of Applied Earth Observation and Geoinformation.
