Brief Biography (English)

Dr Fredrick Odhiambo Otieno is a Medical Epidemiologist and the Research Director of the Nyanza Reproductive Health Society (NRHS). His Research interests are in Adolescent Health and Men’s Health in the fields of HIV/AIDS, STIs, infectious diseases, and reproductive health.

He graduated with a PhD in Public Health Epidemiology and an MPH both from the University of the Western Cape in South Africa. Between 2003 and 2014, he worked with the KEMRI/CDC Research and Public Health Collaboration starting as a Study Clinician, Study Coordinator and eventually becoming the Deputy Branch Chief for Science for the HIV Research Branch before moving to NRHS in 2014.

Dr Otieno has been PI for several epidemiological and clinical trials mostly in the fields of HIV, STI, and Reproductive Health, and has about 20 Publications in Peer-Reviewed Journals. He is the PI for the Anza Mapema programme which is one of the largest MSM cohorts in the country engaged in clinical trials and programmatic interventions for MSM in Kisumu.

Dr Otieno is a Member of the MSM Health Research Consortium and has also conducted several Training courses in Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Malawi, South Africa, and Zambia. He has a passion for emergency medicine and is a Certified Advanced Trauma Life Support Trainer by the American College of Surgeons.
