Dr Francis Ooko is currently a Head of Clinical Department (Radiation oncology) at Pietersburg Hospital, Polokwane, Limpopo province, South Africa. He is also a Senior Lecturer and Acting Head of the Department of Radiation Medicine and Imaging in the Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Limpopo, South Africa. He is the program director for postgraduate students specialising in radiation oncology (Master of Medicine) at the University of Limpopo. He supervises master's students in both radiation oncology and diagnostic radiology in relevant research areas.
Dr Ooko's main area of research interest is in gynaecological oncology focusing on the prevention and treatment of cervical cancer and gestational trophoblastic diseases. Currently, He is involved with research on palliative care in patients with cervical cancer as they experience multiple physical and psycho-social distress that can be managed by incorporating palliative care to the standard oncology care to improve their disease experience and quality of life.
