Damian Onwudiwe obtained a PhD in the field of Inorganic & Materials Chemistry in 2011 from University of Fort-Hare, South Africa. After a postdoctoral research training at the North-West University, Potchefstroom campus, he joined the NWU Mafikeng campus as Senior Lecturer in June 2015. He was promoted to the position of Associate Professor in January 2019. He is the Research Leader of the Inorganic and Materials Chemistry Research Group of the North-West University, South Africa. He is a recipient of different early career research awards including TWAS-DFG fellowship as a visiting scientist to University of Cologne, Germany and the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC) Early career Research Fellowship to Kings College London, UK. He is a college member of the International Development Peer Review of the United Kingdom Research Initiative (UKRI) and also a National Research Foundation (NRF) of South Africa rated researcher in the Y2 category. His area of research specialization includes the controlled synthesis and manipulation of materials' physical and chemical properties; and their applications in energy and the environment, specifically in water treatment.
