Onuka is a fellow of the Institute of Corporate Administration, a fellow of the Association of Educational Researchers and Evaluators of Nigeria, and also a fellow of the Institute of Management consultant of Nigeria, among others. He belongs to several academic and professional associations. He was a one time President of the Association of University Chaplains of Nigeria (2002-2005), a former President of Association of Educational Researchers and Evaluators of Nigeria (2011-2015), has been the Vice President and Chair, Editorial Board of the Higher Education Research and Policy Network, a member, African Network for Internationalisation of Education, Society for African Journal Editors, Association for Educational Assessment in Africa. He won the 2013 version of the African accomplished Educational Researcher awarded by the trio of Association for the Development of Education in Africa, African Development Institute of the African Development Bank, and South Korean Foundation. He has over 120 publications in Journals (nationally and internationally), Books, Edited Books, Monographs, and chapters. He is on the editorial boards of both local and international journals and has produced over a dozen Ph.D holders and over 60 Master degree holders. He is a mentor of repute. He is a chartered mediator trained in Uganda and Nigeria.
