Brief Biography (English)

Dr Eric Omwenga is a Biomedical Scientist specializing in Medical Microbiology. His passion and Research interests are in antimicrobial discovery, antimicrobial resistance profiling, and exploring new strategies that can be used to combat microbial resistance.

For this to be a reality he is exploring various techniques, subjects, areas like ethnopharmacology, resistance gene profiling amongst the microbes, bacterial quorum sensing inhibition, antivirulence targets like adhesion, biofilm formation, and toxin production, cytotoxicity studies by use of mammalian cells, phage usage and usage of novel based strategies like nano-biotechnological principles in gene and drugs or lead compounds delivery.

Other areas Dr Omwenga is interested in are phytochemistry, molecular biology and microscopy. All these are geared towards mapping the resistance genes in our society amongst the microbes and also trying to understand their resistance modes which can assist in coming up with possible mechanisms that can be used in inhibiting them.
