Dr Etinosa Beauty Omoruyi is a creative Biochemist specialized in Medicinal plant research and with more than 8 years of postgraduate experience teaching and carrying out research in the life sciences. She is actively involved in basic and applied scientific research as evidenced by recent outputs (h-index of 8) in DHET-accredited peer-reviewed international journals. Over the past 8 years, her research focused on understanding the pathophysiology of chronic diseases in South Africa, finding novel biomarkers of these diseases, and discovering novel plant-derived nutraceuticals and bio-controls that can be utilized for disease prevention. She is also skilled in the use of biochemical and molecular techniques such as spectrophotometry, Gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC/MS), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), molecular characterization with Polymerase chain reaction (PCR), Liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC/MS) and Zeiss Axioskop Fluorescent Microscope equipped with a digital camera linked to a computer to capture images by means of a Vysis software programme. Data analysis is a crucial aspect of research findings and many postgraduate students have been assisted in this area to achieve good research reports. Apart from these technical qualifications, she has also acquired excellent communication, leadership, problem-solving, teamwork, personal and time management skills over the course of her young career. She is a member of the South African Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (SASBMB) and a registered Scientist with the South African Council for Natural and Scientific Professions (SACNASP). Dr Omoruyi is a reviewer for several international journals notably, Phytomedicine, Journal of Medicinal Plants Research and Economic Development.
