Brief Biography (English)

Dr Adesola Olalekan is currently a Lecturer 1 and a passionate researcher at the Department of Medical Laboratory Science, College of Medicine at the University of Lagos in Nigeria. Her research interest focused on the Study of Molecular epidemiology of Bacteria especially the ''ESKAPE'' (Enterococcus faecium, Staphylococcus aureus, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Acinetobacter baumannii, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and Enterobacter species) to unravel the mechanism of antibiotic resistance in this population of bacteria and also Chromobacterium violaceum and Stenotrophomonas maltophilia. She is currently studying the entire genomes of these bacteria by exploiting the bioinformatics tool to study the population structures of their resistance gene and their evolution. She is an infectious disease researcher, interested in using molecular technology to study the genetic determinant of antimicrobial resistance in clinical infections. She has published land mark interesting result in the national and international journals in the area of antimicrobial resistance studies and she is providing capacity building programs on standard antimicrobial testing techniques in different institutions in the country. She is also interested in providing mitigation to the menace of antimicrobial resistance, the reason why she joined the antibiotic stewardship team.

Dr Olalekan has won several fellowship and travel award- notably German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) fellowship in Germany 2009- 2011, Revisit of German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) Germany 2019, Second best PhD Thesis 2012/2013 academic session LAUTECH. German Research Foundation (DFG)/The World Academy of Sciences(TWAS) collaborative visit Munster, Germany, 2018 and several global health travel award and most recent Africa Research Excellence award AREF2021. She is a fellow of West African Postgraduate College of Medical Laboratory Science (WAPCMLS) and Fellowship of Medical Laboratory Science of Nigeria (MLSN). She is a member of Professional bodies namely: Association of Medical Laboratory Scientist of Nigeria (AMLSN), Royal Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene, European Society of Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Disease (ESCMID), America Society of Microbiology (ASM), British Society of Antimicrobial Chemotherapy (BSAC), Nigeria Biosafety Association and Africa Biological Safety Association (AFBSA).
