Dr Stephen Oyewumi Oladipo is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the Department of Electrical Engineering at Tshwane University of Technology (TUT), Pretoria, South Africa. He holds a Y2 rating from the National Research Foundation (NRF) of South Africa (2025–2030), recognising him as a promising young researcher with the potential to establish himself as a leader in his field within the next five to ten years.
Dr Oladipo earned his PhD in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from the University of Johannesburg in 2022, with a dissertation titled "Enhanced Meta-heuristic Algorithm with Application to Automatic Generation Control System." He also holds an MTech in Electrical and Electronic Engineering (2016) and a BTech in the same discipline (2010), both from Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomoso, Nigeria.
His research interests span metaheuristic and evolutionary optimisation algorithms, machine learning and deep learning applications, power systems control, energy consumption forecasting, and financial fraud detection. His work applies these techniques to real-world problems such as automatic generation control, load frequency control, distribution system optimisation, and predictive modelling for energy and security applications.
Dr Oladipo has authored or co-authored 36 scientific publications in reputable international journals and conferences, including IEEE Access, Renewable Energy (Elsevier), IET Renewable Power Generation (Wiley), Renewable Energy Focus (Elsevier), and Cogent Engineering. His work has been cited over 557 times, and he holds a Google Scholar h-index of 16. He actively contributes to the scholarly community as a reviewer for five international journals and currently serves as a Guest Editor for a Special Issue in the journal Processes (MDPI).
Alongside his research, Dr Oladipo lectures part-time on Computational Intelligence (CIN138S/CIN118S) at TUT and contributes to postgraduate supervision and mentorship within the department. He is a registered member of the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN), the Nigerian Society of Engineers (MNSE), and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). Through his research and teaching, Dr Oladipo continues to advance the application of computational intelligence to pressing challenges in power systems engineering and energy sustainability.
