Brief Biography (English)

Dr Amara Okoye is an Environmental Microbiologist. She holds a PhD in Environmental Microbiology in World Bank African Centre of Excellence-Centre for Oilfield Chemicals Research (ACE-CEFOR) at University of Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Nigeria. Her research focus is on molecular screening of putative hydrocarbon utilising bacteria and detection of functional genes. with focus on bioremediation of hydrocarbon-polluted matrices using high throughput sequencing techniques.

Dr Okoye received full sponsorship/scholarship by World Bank for PhD program in Africa Centre of Excellence-Centre for Oilfield Chemicals Research, (ACE-CEFOR), University of Port Harcourt (2017-2020), Society for Applied Microbiology (SfAM) & Federation of European Microbiological Societies (FEMS) Congress Studentship full sponsorship grant to present “Evaluation of hydrocarbon utilising bacteria from crude oil-contaminated soil in Gio Community, Niger Delta, Nigeria” at 8th Congress of European Microbiologists in Glasgow in Scotland (July 7-11, 2019), Full sponsorship/travel grant for 3rd Summer School on sustainable Chemistry for Sustainable Development on 25th September to 29th September, 2017 by Organisational Team Summer School (S3C) Leuphana University Lüneburg in Germany, Institute for Sustainable and Environmental Chemistry-Leuphana University Lüneburg, 3rd Position Poster Presentation at American Society for Microbiology (ASM) young scientist award (38th Annual General Meeting and Scientific Conference of the Nigerian Society for Microbiology, 1st - 5th Sept. 2015).
