Brief Biography (English)

Dr Gregory N. Okolo graduated with a BEng degree in Chemical Engineering from Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT), Nigeria in 1996. He worked with African Petroleum Plc (Now Forte Oil) until 2006 before leaving the shores of Nigeria for his career development.

Dr Okolo joined the Coal Research group of the Unit for Energy & Technology Systems (UETS) in April 2009 for his MEng postgraduate study in Energy sustainability with an emphasis on Coal gasification kinetics and syn-gas production. He finished his MEng study in 2010 and won the Fossil Fuel Foundation of Africa Academic Achievement Award in 2011, in recognition of his outstanding research in the understanding of the reaction kinetics of chars derived from South African coals.

Dr Okolo continued with his PhD studies in the area of climate change mitigation under the supervisor-ship of Professors Ray Everson, Hein Neomagus, and Richard Sakurovs of CSIRO Energy, North Ryde, NSW, Australia. His PhD thesis was titled "Adsorption properties of South African bituminous coals relevant to carbon dioxide storage”.

He has Authored or Co-Authored several full-length research papers in leading international journals and has Co-Supervised BEng and MEng research projects since 2011. Dr Okolo has Presented his research work to both local and international audiences in conferences, seminars, workshops, and International Summer Schools (IEAGHG).

During the course of his Research, Dr Okolo has Collaborated with leading international researchers in the USA (Penn State University), Australia (CSIRO), UK (University of Nottingham; University of Leeds) and South Africa (University of Witwatersrand, Stellenbosch University, University of Pretoria and CSIR, Pretoria).

His specialty includes coal characterization, coal utilization and reaction kinetics, oxy-fuel combustion, climate change mitigation, CCS, carbon storage in geologic media, ECBM, carbon dioxide sorption kinetics, molecular modeling using Material studio.
