Andrew Emmanuel Okem holds a doctorate in Policy and Development Studies from the University of KwaZulu-Natal in South Africa. He currently works as a Science Officer with the Working Group II Technical Support Unit of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. Previously, Dr Okem worked as a Senior Researcher with the Maurice Webb Race Relations Institute where he Led several impact assessment studies and Training of public servants in monitoring and evaluation.
Between 2015 and 2017, he worked as a Senior Researcher under the South African Research Chair Initiative in Applied Poverty Reduction Assessment. Under the Chair, he Led a study that focused on the poverty reduction co-benefits of climate change projects in the eThekwini Municipality, Durban.
Between 2012 and 2015, Dr Okem Lectured in the public policy programme at the University of KwaZulu Natal. He has extensive Consulting experiences and has been involved in various projects. Dr Okem is currently a Co-Principal Investigator on the Municipal Innovation Maturity Index funded by the Department of Science and Innovation. The project is being implemented in partnership with the Human Sciences Research Council and the South African Local Government Association.
Dr Okem was also a Co-Principal Investigator on the decision support tool for the sustainable human settlement project funded by the Department of Science and Innovation. He has several peer-reviewed Publications including three edited Books one of which was on the South African cooperative sector.
