Brief Biography (English)

Dr Muritala Olaniyi Oke is a Senior Research Fellow with the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Kuru, Nigeria. He had previously worked as a Senior Lecturer at the Crescent University, Abeokuta, Nigeria; Facilitator at the National Open University of Nigeria and a Visiting Lecturer at the Bells University of Technology, Ota, Nigeria. A Scholar of Developing Solution Scholarship Award, United Kingdom and Ogun State Human Capital Development Programme, Oke is a PhD holder in Water Security from the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, Nigeria; and Master degree in Environmental Management from the University of Nottingham, Nottingham, United Kingdom. His research interests include Water, Environmental and Climate Security, Public Policy Development and Analysis. He has published widely in reputable local and international journals and contributed to book chapters in these areas. Dr Oke has presented papers in local and international seminars and conferences in Nigeria, United Kingdom, Switzerland, Ghana amongst other places.

Dr Oke is in charge of development and coordination of policy proposal, research, and review on Water, Environment and Climate Security at NIPSS and had developed and convened a Think Tank Conference on Comprehensive Water Security Policy and Strategy for Nigeria. He equally participated in EU/SDGN/NIPSS Grants Implementation for the Capacity Building of Political Parties in Nigeria; Think-Tank Conference on the Policy Options for Economic Recovery and Growth in Nigeria; Dialogue on Current National Security Challenges in Nigeria: Towards an All-Inclusive Strategy; Nigeria’s Foreign Policy and Strategy: Responses to the Dynamics of the Domestic and Global Environment in the 21st Century and NIPSS Senior Executive 2016/2017/2018 Tours. As part of his community service, Dr Oke has developed WASH-SWAp Implementation and Guidance Model for Engagement with 14 States in Nigeria and reviewed/implemented Ogun State Regional Development Plan for the holistic development of the state.

Dr Oke has received capacity-building training at Geneva Centre for Security Policy; Geneva on Climate Change; Security Challenges and Responses; Policy Strategy and Leadership Course (PSLC), course 27 of NIPSS; Korean Government (KOICA) Capacity Building Programme on E-government and Open Government Data; Institute of Environment Management and Assessment (IEMA) training on achieving Environmental Management System in Small and Medium Scale Industries, Hull City, United Kingdom; Chartered Institution of Waste Management, Oxford City, United Kingdom (Sustainable Waste Management in Developing Countries); Environmental Impact Assessment, Nottingham, United Kingdom; Nigeria Institute of Training and Development (NITAD) on Human Resources Management; Small and Medium Scale Enterprises Development (SMEDAN) on Entrepreneurship Development and Project Management Professional Training, CPMS, Lagos on Project Management.

Dr Oke has participated in international conferences and workshop such as International Conference on Saving Lake Chad, organised by Lake Chad Basin Commission (2018); Ecosystem-Based Adaptation for Food Security in Africa Assembly (EBAFOSA), International Association of Hydrological Sciences, (NAHS), Project Management Institute, (PMI), USA. He is happily married with four children and hobbies include brainstorming and playing table tennis.
