Dr Izuchukwu Okafor is an African Union scholar in reproductive health sciences with over 40 research publications across anatomical sciences, biomedical sciences and reproductive health sciences. He is also a clinical embryologist with a PhD in reproductive biology. Dr Okafor is a lecturer at the Nnamdi Azikiwe University where he teaches medical and paramedical students at the undergraduate and graduate levels, conducts reproductive health research and drives reproductive health advocacies through the university students' clubs and associations. He has won several grants and awards and is currently a part of a global team (Public Health Africa) that is focused on the development of infrastructure and capacity for open science in Public Health in Africa. He is currently a member of the Global South Committee on Open Science.
Dr Okafor is a cofounder and project manager at LifePorté Educational project which focuses on science engagement and health advocacy in Nigerian schools. He is also a board member of Neuro-G Foundation which advances mental health education in Nigeria. He is a certified project manager from Project Management Institute (PMI) in United States of America, and has consulted and partnered with institutions both locally and internationally on youth engagement strategy on health advocacy and education including Anatomy Academy in United States of America, The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), and The Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC). He developed the repurposement of BINGWA Initiative of the The Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) for a scale up implementation. He has served as a governing council member of the African Union-owned premier graduate university, Pan African University which hosts graduate students across 54 African Union member states.
