Brief Biography (English) Dr. Ojuromi has a research interest in molecular studies and the prevalence of protozoan and helminths species in Nigeria and other parts of the world. He is currently studying the molecular epidemiology of Cryptosporidium, Giardia, Entamoeba histolytica/dispar, and microsporidia species in our environment. They are parasitic pathogens have been reported to be agents of diarrhea in both immuno-competent and immuno-compromised host and animals. The main objective of current research is to identify and characterise species of these organisms in our environment to have adequate knowledge and understanding of the zoonotic potential of the parasites. It is also aimed at determining the species subtypes from both human and animal samples and compares the genotype of isolates from animals to those found in human strains. Additionally, studies on isolation of bioactive compounds from medicinal plants to test for their potency as anti- protozoan drugs are in progress.
