Brief Biography (English)

Professor Eyitope Ogunbodede was Vice-Chancellor of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife from June 7, 2017 to June 6, 2022. He joined the services of the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Nigeria as a Medical Training Fellow in March 1987 in the Faculty of Dentistry, where he rose to become a professor in the year 2000. Prof Ogunbodede served as Head of Department for 12 academic sessions between 1989 and 2007. He also served as Dean of the Faculty of Dentistry from 1999 to 2002. He was Provost of the College of Health Sciences, OAU from 2007 to 2009. He was Honorary Visiting Professor to the University of the Witwatersrand, South Africa, from 2000 to 2010 and Visiting Professor, Oral Health Policy and Epidemiology, Harvard School of Dental Medicine, USA from May 1 2012 to April 31, 2013.

Prof Ogunbodede envisioned and set up the DEMA Foundation Dental Museum, the first Dental Museum in Africa and the first specialised Museum in Nigeria, commissioned on September 18, 2015 in Ile-Ife.  He also established the Community Dental Clinic at Ipetumodu in Ife North Local Government Area which is the first dental clinic to be established under a Local Government Council in Nigeria.

An accomplished academic, Prof Ogunbodede has published over 100 full-length peer-reviewed scientific journal articles, 2 books, contributed 3 chapters to books, 5 monographs, and over 50 Conference abstracts.  He was Convener and Foundation President of the International Association for Dental Research (IADR) Nigerian Division, President of the African and Middle East Region for 3 years and was on the International Council of the Association (IADR) from 2014 to 2017. He has also led many outstanding national and international Research projects. Prof Ogunbodede was the visioner and Foundation Editor-in-Chief of the African Journal of Oral Health (AJOH). He has held positions in numerous professional organizations and academic establishments in various parts of the world and has won many distinctions and awards.
