Prof Nicholas Odhiambo holds a PhD (Economics) degree from the Stellenbosch University (South Africa). He is a seasoned academic whose research has made a significant contribution to the scholarly body of knowledge. His research has over the years focused on the dynamic linkages between the various macroeconomic policies in African countries and their effect on economic growth and poverty reduction. In the past 20 years, he has published a number of papers in various local and international journals. Of these publications, more than 290 articles have been published in more than 140 reputable/peer-reviewed/refereed journals. In addition, he has published five books/book chapters. He has also presented more than 30 papers at various international conferences/institutions worldwide. Prof Odhiambo is currently ranked among the top economics authors in the world by Research Papers in Economics (RePEc)/IDEAS. According to Research Papers in Economics (RePEc)/IDEAS (February, 2021), he was ranked number two (2) in South Africa and number three (3) in Africa based on a number of criteria. He is also currently the most-cited economics authors in Africa, according to Research Papers in Economics (RePEc)/IDEAS (October, 2020), based on the number of Citations, Weighted by the Number of Authors. In addition, Prof Odhiambo is also currently ranked among the top authors worldwide based on eighteen (18) other criteria, including the Average Rank Score, the Number of Works, the Number of Distinct Works, the Number of Distinct Works, the h-index, the Euclidian citation score and the Wu-Index, among others (see https://ideas.repec.org/e/pod33.html -- Accessed: 1 December 2020). Prof Odhiambo also recently made it on the list of the top 2% most impactful scientists in the world in a study published in PLOS Biology in 2020, which was conducted by researchers from Stanford University, SciTech Strategies, Inc. His University of South Africa (UNISA) awards alone currently exceed fifteen (15).
Prof Odhiambo has maintained the highest accumulated research output in the College of Economic and Management Sciences (CEMS) at the University of South Africa (UNISA) since 2007. He currently serves as Associate Editor: Journal of African Development (Pen State University Press). He is also currently a member of the International Advisory Board/Editorial Review Board of various internationally recognised journals, including: 1) Journal of African Business (by Taylor & Francis); 2) African Journal of Economic and Management Sciences (by Emerald Publishing Limited); and 3) African Journal of Economic Review (by the Open University of Tanzania), amongst others. He has also served as Guest Editor for Energy Exploration & Exploitation (SAGE), Journal of Policy Research in Tourism, Leisure and Events (Taylor & Francis), and Telecommunications Policy (Elsevier). Prof Odhiambo is also currently serving as the Founding Editor of the University of South Africa (UNISA) Economic Research Working Paper Series, which he established in 2014/15. He has served as an external examiner for more than eleven (11) universities, which are located in South Africa, Kenya, Ghana and Australia. He has also supervised more than 30 postgraduate students at various levels. During the past +/- five years alone, he has produced twelve (12) doctoral and 3 Master’s graduates, including two doctoral candidates who are expected to graduate in 2020.
