Dr Ogunyemi Oderinlo obtained his PhD from Rhodes University, Grahamstown, South Africa, under the supervision and co-supervision of Prof. Setshaba D. Khanye and Dr Matshawe M. Tukulula (University of KwaZulu-Natal), respectively. He obtained his Master's Degree in Organic Chemistry from the University of Ibadan, Nigeria, and his Bachelor’s Degree in Pure and Applied Chemistry from Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Nigeria.
Dr Oderinlo currently works as a Lecturer at the Department of Chemistry, Federal University Otuoke, Bayelsa, Nigeria, where he is involved in Teaching and Practical Demonstration of Organic Chemistry to undergraduate students. As part of his responsibilities, he also Supervises undergraduate students' research projects.
His interest lies in solving biological problems through the application of chemical methods. Dr Oderinlo is particularly interested in drug discovery research for diseases such as malaria, tuberculosis, trypanosomiasis, schistosomiasis, oral candidiasis and cancer, which are of high socio-economic importance in Africa.
His research centred on natural products (including essential oils) and organic synthesis (heterocyclic small molecules). During the course of his academic and research training, he has acquired technical skills in natural product isolation, organic synthesis and routine analytical techniques (e.g. FTIR, NMR, MS, etc).
Dr Oderinlo has gained a broader working knowledge of aligned disciplines (e.g. Cheminformatics, Pharmacology etc) and the ability to work effectively in an interdisciplinary team.
He is open to collaboration within and outside the continent.
