Brief Biography (English)

Profesor Trevor Nyakudya is an Associate Professor at the University of Pretoria, School of Medicine in the Department of Physiology where he is actively involved in the teaching of undergraduate medical and science students. He is a BSc Hons graduate from the University of Zimbabwe. He later joined the University of the Witwatersrand, School of Physiology where he studied for and graduated with an MSc Medicine (Physiology) and a Doctoral degree (PhD) in Medical Physiology. He also holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Health Sciences Education and an MSc in Health Science Education from the University of the Witwatersrand. His research focus is on neonatal programming and the developmental origins of health and metabolic disease. He makes use of neonatal and adult animal models to investigate the potential therapeutic efficacy of alternative and complementary medicines, administered during the critical windows of developmental plasticity, against diet-induced metabolic dysfunction. Professor Nyakudya is a member of several national and international scientific societies. He has authored and co-authored several accredited scientific publications and a book chapter. He is also currently supervising and co-supervising several postgraduate students.
