Dr Cletus Famous Nwankwo is a Lecturer in the Department of Geography and Environmental Sustainability at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN). He holds a PhD in Human Geography from The University of Leicester, United Kingdom. He has a background in Environmental Politics, Conflict Studies, Geopolitics and Climate Change. He has authored over 23 scopus-indexed publications and has reviewed over 80 manuscripts across over 50 journals. Dr Nwankwo is a two-time recipient of the Commonwealth Scholarships (in 2017 for MA and in 2020 for PhD). His PhD was at the University of Leicester and MA in Politics and International Relations (Environmental Politics and Climate Change) at the University of Keele, United Kingdom. He gained Associate Fellowship of Advanced HE United Kingdom in 2023. He is an Associate Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society (with IBG) in the United Kingdom and member of the Association of American Geographer s(AAG) and the International Geographical Union (IGU) Commission on Geography of Governance.
Dr Nwankwo has conducted ethnographic research into the farmer-pastoralist conflicts in Nigeria supported by a grant from the United Kingdom Office for the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) administered by the Commonwealth Scholarships Commission in the United Kingdom. The ethnographic research findings are documenteed in his PhD thesis which produced 8 publications in top-tier journals including World Development, Political Geography, Geoforum, Progress in Environmental Geography, Society, and other respected journals such as Critical African Studies, Trees, Forests and People. He has also researched climate change impacts and urbanisation, voting patterns in the Nigerian elections of the fourth Republic. He studied Geography at the University of Nigeria and graduated top of his class in 2014 with First Class Honours. Also, he was the best student in the Faculty of Social Sciences in 2014
