Professor Petra Obioma Nnamani is a Professor at Department of Pharmaceutics, University of Nigeria Nsukka. Prof Nnamani studied pharmacy in University of Nigeria Nsukka (B Pharm; 2001) and M Pharm (2004). During her PhD (2006-2010), she joined the nanotechnology group at ICS-UNIDO Trieste, Italy (2009) for Early Research Training in Nanotechnology. She obtained her PhD in Drug Delivery and has had postdoctoral trainings in Shivaji University Kolhapur, India (2012) and Helmholtz-Institute for Pharmaceutical Research Saarland (HIPS), Saarland University, Germany (2013) and currently Alexander von Humboldt Stiftung, (2019-2022). Her research focuses on exploring the biological barriers of gastrointestinal tract and the skin, using nanotechnology-based drug carriers capable of crossing epithelial barriers and sustaining drug release in different disease conditions (malaria, infections, wounds, diabetes, inflammation/ulcers etc). Prof Nnamani is recipient of several awards: Georg Forster Award of Alexander von Humboldt Stiftung, 1 of 10 women innovators in African continent by World Intellectual Property Organisation/Innovation Prize for Africa, Botswana 2016; Grand Challenges Canada Star in Global Health (2013-2015), Leader in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) 2017 (TechWomen). She has received and managed grants; published 86 papers with 48 conference contributions; a top journal reviewer and a mother of 5 children.
